Our history

Cantine Patria: Between History and Enological Passion

The history of Cantine Patria originated in Monreale in 1950, when the Di Miceli family purchased a feud that belonged to Duke Papè in the Patrìa district, inspiring the winery’s name.

In 1992, Francesco Di Miceli, a distinguished agronomist and oenologist, took over the “Torrepalino” winery, located in Solicchiata, part of the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, on the northern slope of Etna at an altitude of about 700 meters above sea level.

The winery is located along the ancient Roman consular road, now known as the Etna wine road, nestled between two significant volcanic formations: the now extinct Mount Mojo and Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe.

Today, the winery, once linked to the Aragonese Watchtower, is known as Cantine Patria, a symbol of the union between a deep respect for traditions and an ambitious look toward the future.

Welcome to the heart of our winemaking history and passion.

Our values

Quality, land and tradition at the heart of our philosophy

Our philosophy is based on three basic principles: wine quality, love for the land and respect for tradition. Each bottle is the result of meticulous experimentation originating in our vineyards, where commitment to soil management is harmoniously combined with respect for the environment and the application of centuries-old cultivation techniques.

Most of our vineyards are grown in espalier style with cordon pruning, although some plots are still cultivated in bush-trained vines, from which we obtain highly prized grapes for the production of our Etna D.O.C. wines and 1996, 2000, 2001 Reserves.

The adoption of cutting-edge technologies testifies to our commitment to the future, while maintaining our love and dedication to the land that nourishes us. This approach extends to the enhancement of native grape varieties for the production of ETNA DOC wine and the use of international grape varieties, enhanced by the peculiarities of the island territory, research and enological experimentation.

Our family

The strength of Cantine Patria:
the Di Miceli family

Behind every Cantine Patria label is the story of a family: the Di Miceli family. Francesco, the founder, works hand in hand with his wife and son Bernardo, dad’s right-hand man. This family union extends to every corner of the winery, seeing daughter Lucia involved along with son-in-law Graziano in tours and tastings, and enriched by the presence of daughter-in-law Veronica, who is responsible for events and weddings at the winery. Each member contributes his or her talent and passion, creating wines that carry with them the love and dedication of a close-knit family.

Production Plants and Technological Innovation

Technology and quality: the future of winemaking

At Cantine Patria, every detail of the production facilities is thought out and designed to reflect our vision: to combine winemaking tradition with technological innovation, for wines that tell the story of the richness and diversity of our beloved territory.

Steel silos and fermenters

At the heart of our production process are thermally controlled silos, which play a crucial role in preserving the aromatic makeup of the grapes. These facilities, together with 200 hl steel fermenters, ensure controlled and uniform alcoholic fermentation, which is essential for obtaining high-quality wines with distinctive organoleptic characteristics.

The wine laboratory

Our oenological laboratory is the technological heart of Cantine Patria. Here, innovation and research are intertwined to ensure the highest precision and quality in every bottle. Through continuous monitoring and advanced chemical analysis, we ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained, underscoring our commitment to excellence.

Bottling

Our modern bottling facility, capable of handling 6,000 bottles per hour, reflects an annual production potential of 1.5 million bottles. This efficient bottling line, coupled with our quality control laboratory, ensures that each wine reaches consumers in full compliance with the very high quality standards that set us apart.
